A Trip to Silver Beach, Cuddalore

Cuddalore is located in the South-Indian state of Tamil Nadu in India. Cuddalore is around 20 kilometres from Pondicherry. Cuddalore is generally a calm and quiet place where the tourists hustle is comparatively less.

I had taken a local bus from Pondicherry to Cuddalore. It took around 30 mins to reach Cuddalore. I had to take an auto to reach the Silver Beach (about which i had heard from few of my friends) I was searching for the beach. The only issue which i had faced was the lack of knowledge of the local language, Tamil. Thanks to all the Tamil movies and songs i had been listening to, i can understand Tamil well but speaking back was a problem. Somehow i managed to speak in my best knowledge of the language and found out the beach.

It was around 2:30 in the afternoon when i had reached there. I knew that there was a park close by. Thanks to Google Maps without which i would never be able to plan a trip. I wonder at times... If the great boon,'internet' never existed, i would still live under the rocks without even bothering to go to a store, buy a map and find out the different places. Internet and modern technology definitely deserves a praise.

Sorry to slip away from the topic...

I just strolled through the pavement to the beach park. Surprisingly, the experience i had was not like what i had heard about the place from my friends. They had warned me that the place would be crowded, but only a few tourists were there in the beach. After spending sometime in the park, i decided to move on to the beach. The intensity of heat had also gone down.

The life here fascinated me. What i had thought is a crowded place turned out to be a calm place with very few tourists and local people around. A wonderful aroma just diverted my attention that instant. I was sure that it was coming from the beach. As a foodie, i was in a mood to eat something. I found that the stalls were open as it was past 4 in the evening and they started selling 'Bajjis' which emitted the aroma. I had "Chilli Bajji" and "Cauliflower Bajji" and some Lime juice and started walking towards the beach.

There were see-saws, swing sets and even lots of seats for people to settle in. As i was walking towards the beach, i found people irrespective of their age, playing in the water. This sight reminded me of my family - my sweet Grandparents, how wonderful it would be if they were there with me in the beach instead of my native.

I just sat on the beach and started observing the events going around me.Two kids were nagging heir parents for cotton candies which the parents were reluctant to buy for their kids. A bunch of teenagers swimming around the seashore, a boy trying to make a sandcastle while the waves shatter it.. All i could understand was that the people around me were enjoying with their dear ones without any tension or stress regarding office work, exams or any household work.

I clicked a few pictures and asked around the details regarding St David Fort. I found out that the fort is in its ruins and people are not allowed inside. I had just reached the point which makes me feel sad all the time; returning back!

This journey is yet another memorable chapter etched in the book of my travels! Thank you and Keep reading for more updates.
