Taj Mahal is considered as one of the wonders of the world because of its mere beauty. It is made of white marbles and many controversies surround the architectural marvel. I prefer not to make comments on this issue.

What I am mentioning below is my personal opinion and I do not intend to hurt anyone. So here I go...
**As per my observation, human beings tend to appreciate beauty or either feel jealous of the beauty possessed by others. I would like to point out a simple example here. Let's take the case of Taj Mahal. What we, human beings see is the external beauty of the building and the fact that it's made of white marble. I do agree with the opinion that it is indeed a piece of architecture worth mentioning and it is therefore well- maintained. But just think of the other architectural marvels in India; the palaces and forts in India, the temples and museums, Aren't they worth a praise?
I will provide few simple examples. Konark Temple or the Sun Temple in Odisha, Shore temple in Mahabalipuram. Both temples are carved out beautifully from wood and stone. Just notice the detailing given in each and every pillar of the temples. We can read a story out of it if we observe carefully. These two temples are mere examples while such beautiful buildings are in abundance in India.
So my point is,

So my point is,
- Shouldn't we give proper maintenance and attention to all these monuments in the same way as the Taj Mahal? Yes.
2. Are all the other monuments praised in the same way as the Taj Mahal?
The answer would be "NO"
What can we do as common people?
- As common people, we should take initiative in protecting our monuments which are at the verge of destruction.
- Restore the monuments which are in ruins with the help of Archaeological Survey of India. By restoring the monuments, I mean that when we identify the ruins, inform the concerned authorities so that it is restored for the future generations.
- Make it a point that we refrain from creating any damage (drawings on walls, writing names etc) to the monuments.
- Do not litter the tourist attractions.
- Provide accurate information to the visitors/ tourists and respect and treat them with dignity. As we all Indians consider, "Athithi Devo Bhava" which means the tourists are considered as Gods.
So as citizens of India, it is our responsibility and duty to protect the monuments left for us by our ancestors. We should take a pledge that we will consider all the monuments equal to Taj Mahal and maintain it for the upcoming generations to learn and understand the life of their ancestors.
All the monuments and tourist attractions we have, should be considered as the assets of the country.
Similar policies should be implemented in different countries to preserve and protect their monuments. Most of the countries do have better way of preserving their monuments and I appreciate it.
